Behnaz Aram 'Growing Up' at BENEATH

Following the success of Behnaz Arams’s catwalk show “Get in Line”; Behnaz Aram will stage “Growing Up” an exhibition of photographic prints of her Autumn/winter 2006 collection by photographer David Fischer and styled by Marcus Soder. The exhibition will run from Friday 31st March until Saturday April 28th at BENEATH store, Stockholm.

The images feature two models in Behnaz Aram’s new men’s and women’s wear collection as well as accessories by long-term collaborator Marten Andreasson and jewellery by William Cheshire. The collection is inspired the naivety of childhood; how people grow as a person as they go trough both good and bad emotional and physical experiences. All the pieces are black, simple, highly tailored with a narrow silhouette.

Parking is difficult. Spaces are available at The Camp, Randolph Street & the Business Complex next To Memphis

Show Runs March 25th, 2006 - April 23rd, 2006
About "Gravy Yard"Mike Aho describes standing in front of Michael Sieben’s art space, Camp Fig, in Austin, Texas as a man and a woman passing by, notice the gallery. Witnessing the man peaking in, this man glances quickly at the paintings lining the walls then leans over to his wife and murmurs, “Yeah . . . they’re children’s drawings”, both turn and walk away down 5th street in Austin.

It is precisely why Mike Aho, Travis Millard, Michael Sieben and Todd Bratrud’s work meld so well together in “Gravy Yard”. While stylistically their images appear childish their messages are full of discontent and irony. Imagery rooted with backgrounds in skateboarding and childhood nostalgia, each artist’s similarities extend to influence the other. Breaking from a contrive art world, Mike Aho, Travis Millard, Micehal Sieben and Todd Bratrud convey a humorous reference to a empathetic society, utilizing humorous statements contained within their work extending “Expression before Conception”.

Urbis-Artium - San Francisco - Art Opening - Thursday 16th - 5:30 - 8pm

Exhibition Dates: March 16 through April 28, 2006
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 16, 2006, 5:30 – 8:00 pm
Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Friday 10 to 5:30, Saturday 11:00 to 5

Urbis Artium Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new stencil paintings by Logan Hicks and Adam5100. This will be the first public viewing of several large and mid-sized works by two of California’s most acclaimed stencil artists.

Known for his hyper-detailed, meticulously hand cut stencils, Los Angeles-based Logan Hicks has risen to the top ranks of his field with his borderline obsessive approach to the stencil medium. Using a non-intuitive approach to color, layering and scale, Hicks’ recent work exposes the hidden structural parallels that unite architecture and the urban “organism" with their counterparts in the natural world, leaving the viewer surprised, delighted, and haunted. A former professional screen printer, Hicks has exhibited and lectured throughout the U.S. and abroad, with shows, talks, and demonstrations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Baltimore, Slovenia, Berlin, Melbourne, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Seoul.

Albuquerque-born, Oakland-based Adam5100 pushes the stencil medium to its outer limits. The products of a painstakingly complex process – incorporating as many as a dozen separately cut stencil layers – his finished pieces are unexpectedly serene and contemplative, yet somehow unsettling. His recent paintings challenge our concepts of modernity, using spaces as a language to describe forgotten places, giving them a story and a context within the present. A 2001 graduate of the California College of the Arts and recipient of the Yozo Hamaguchi award in printmaking, Adam5100 has exhibited in galleries throughout the Bay Area and beyond. He will exhibit in China in June and July, 2006.

Both artists will perform live stenciling demonstrations at the gallery on Saturday, April 8, 2006, giving viewers the opportunity to observe the layout, cutting, layering, and painting process from start to finish.
