Bucky Ball by Ryan McGinness

CerealArt presents "Bucky Ball" Soccer Ball by Ryan McGinness

Suggested Retail Price: $150.00
Ryan McGinness is an international artist who combines and remixes graphic vocabularies from a range of sources. His work makes strong social commentary on iconography, language, and historical and contemporary symbolism. McGinness' work consists of an amalgam of icons and symbols in which originals do not exist. Instead, his original graphic drawings and personal iconography are replicated, recontextualized, and materialized infinitely across a range of media-from paintings, prints, and installations, to skateboards, clothing, and videos. In 1999, he received critical accalim for his first book, flatnessisgod. Since then, six additional books of his works have been published and were recently added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. McGinness lives and works in Manhattan and is represented by Deitch Projects.

YBCA and Youth Speaks presents Marc Bamuthi Joseph Scourge World Premiere

Co-commissioned by Youth Speaks and YBCA, Scourge, is the headline event of the Hip-Hop Theater Festival: Bay Area 2005. Emerging performance star Bamuthi Joseph fuses hip-hop, spoken word and live music in an exploration of the narrow space between history, myth and speculation in this revolutionary look at the tragic history of the artist’s native Haiti. Breaking the boundaries of racism and ignorance to reach a new kind of understanding, Scourge is a rich collaboration between Bamuthi Joseph and a host of veteran talents: renowned Latin Jazz composer John Santos, choreographers Rennie Harris, Stacey Printz, and Adia Whitaker, and director Kamilah Forbes. These artists together with the emerging voices of three young writers from Youth Speaks, will create what Bamuthi Joseph calls "a theatrical exorcism."

Cateyeguy and Dogeyeguy by Kenny Scharf

Kenny Scharf spent much of his childhood watching television, "Two inches from the screen," as he tells it. "I remember staring into it, and just watching the different, intense, brilliant colors change all the time." Not surprisingly, he credits shows such as The Jetsons, The Flintstones, and The Munsters as being more influential upon his brightly colored, phantasmagoric images than any art historical movement or style. This aside, it was inarguably Andy Warhol who determined Scharf's choice of career.
