Asheru and Boondocks

Asheru of The Unspoken Heard pens theme music for ‘The Boondocks’ November 7th, 2005 The long awaited ‘Boondocks’ animated comic strip premiered last week on Cartoon Network’s [adult swim]. Aaron McGruder’s comic strip has long been a
favorite in the Hip-Hop community. And finally after several years of hard work and development it has reached the small screen.
By moving ‘The Boondocks’ to TV Mr. McGruder has been able to add the audio aspect that has been the unheard soundtrack for the past 6 years. To help provide the audio soundscape Aaron tapped veteran indie Hip-Hop artist, Asheru of The Unspoken Heard. (Check back a few months for Fixins interview with Asheru)
Asheru aka Gabriel Benn, a big supporter of ‘The Boondocks’ from day one, performs the intro for the show. Asheru initially met the show’s creator soon after the strip was created at the University of Maryland in the late 1990’s. And ever since Aaron and Asheru have watched each other’s career progress looking for ways to work together.
‘The Boondocks’ can be see on Cartoon Network – Sundays at 11pm
Asheru’s latest release ‘Insomnia’ as well as ‘Soon Come..” and “48 Months” are in stores now
