Gravis: The Collective Art Project

Famous for fusing art with footwear, Gravis breaks new ground by creating an exclusive collector's edition shoe constructed from three original canvases painted by celebrated urban artists, Marok, Delta and Matt Sewell.
Specially commissioned for the Gravis Collective Lounge at the contemporary streetwear tradeshow The Park, in Manchester Feb 05, the three 2mx2m canvas panels will be skillfully cut up to become part of the Comet Mid shoe. Artists Marok, Delta and Matt Sewell not only integrate the fabric of their actual artwork but also decide the Comet's style direction, colorway and creative detailing - an innovative first in art/shoe collaborations. By stepping away from basic customizing, Gravis involves its artists at a well-defined and significant level: 'With this initiative Gravis wants to encourage urban artists to become involved in artist/product development and chooses to use the Collective as a testing ground for future artist collaborations,' states Simon Nicholls, Gravis Footwear Brand Director Europe.
In keeping with the project's originality, only 36 shoes will be made from each canvas. Launched at the Bread & Butter tradeshow, July 05, the art-bred Comet will be displayed at the Gravis Collective Lounge at The Park tradeshow in August 05. After a European Store Tour in association with local media, the shoe will be later released worldwide at selected outlets.
