Shuya Okino is the creative director of Kyoto Jazz Massive, the internationally acclaimed production and DJ team that began in the early 90’s. KJM’s first release was an eponymous compilation in 1994 that highlighted the emerging Japanese jazz scene. In 2002, KJM released their debut album “Spirit of the Sun” for Compost Records. A year later, Shuya launched Quality Records as an outlet for his own productions, as well as artists like Jazzanova, Da Lata, and Sleep-Walker. In addition, Shuya is busy as a music writer and club owner. Several years ago, he founded the now defunct Quality Magazine, which was published in 25 cities in 10 countries. His Tokyo club ‘The Room’ is world renowned for its eclectic music nights, having hosted such heavy-hitters as Kenny Dope, Theo Parrish, and Benji B.
